Summarized Review Highlights

Nestor Falls Fly-In Outposts has an overwhelmingly positive reputation among guests, with nearly every reviewer awarding a perfect five-star rating. What stands out most is the depth of loyalty the operation has earned: a large number of reviewers have been returning annually for 10, 20, or even 30-plus years, and several describe it as the best fly-in outfitter they have ever used after trying multiple competitors across Canada. Owners Dave and Michelle, along with their son Jon and the broader staff, are mentioned by name in review after review as warm, attentive, and genuinely invested in each group's experience. Specific examples of service cited include flying in replacement fuses the same day a cabin lost power, arranging a same-day alcohol delivery by satellite phone request, and arranging an early extraction when a guest had a family emergency at home — all without being asked or without complaint.

Guests consistently praise the quality and variety of fishing across the outpost lakes, with walleye and northern pike being the primary targets. Fish counts in the hundreds over a few days are commonly reported, along with trophy-sized specimens including pike over 40 inches and walleye approaching 27 inches. The catch-and-release policy implemented by the owners is credited by long-time guests for the steady improvement in fish size and population over the decades. Cabins are described as clean, well-maintained, and regularly upgraded, with modern amenities including solar power, hot water, freezers, and the ability to charge electronics. Boats and motors receive consistent praise for being reliable and well-kept. The remote, wilderness setting — private lakes, dark skies, loons, wildlife, and no internet — is a major draw that guests return to specifically for the chance to disconnect. Several reviewers note that guests are responsible for bringing their own food and drink, which is standard for self-catering outpost camps and not a complaint, just something first-timers should be aware of.

Genuine complaints are rare to nonexistent in this review set. The only mild note of disappointment came from one group that experienced poor weather — rain and high winds — during a late-August trip, though the reviewer acknowledged that late-season weather variability is simply a known risk. One cabin at Malaher Lake was described as "a bit aged" though "upgraded well," and one group noted a water pump issue that was resolved quickly by the staff. One reviewer also mentioned losing large pike at the boat due to undersized nets, which is a practical tip for future guests rather than a criticism of the outfitter. This destination is best suited for groups of fishing friends or families who want a true remote fly-in experience with private lake access, strong walleye and northern pike fishing, and a self-sufficient outpost setup. It appeals equally to seasoned Canadian fishing veterans and first-timers, and several reviewers specifically highlight it as a great choice for introducing children or spouses to fly-in fishing.

First time using the Nester Falls Fly In Outposts. The experience with them was outstanding. They are very well run. We were the first ones in to there furthest outpost camp this season - Malaher It was clean and ready to go. The boats and motors were awesome. The fishing was great. The opportunities to explore and fish many other lakes was really fun. The solar power is a big plus. Hot water, Freezer, charging depth finders, etc. Highly recommend these people. We will be back

Highly recommend; this is what outpost fishing is all about
Highly recommend. Service was outstanding. Dave and Michelle are kind and attentive. Their pilots do it all and do it well with a great attitude. We have been to 6 fly in outpost groups and Nestor is the best we have experienced. Went to Malaher Lake. Cabin is a bit aged but upgraded well. Caught 275 walleyes and 40 northerns over 4 days. Two 40 inch northerns and a 27 inch walleye. That is what is so interesting about this lake is the variety and the beauty. We most enjoyed taking the short portage to Lake Moar. Stunningly beautiful boat ride and lots of fish. No problem with the requirement to use artificial baits for walleyes. I may never go back to live bait.

Fish Tales from the Hren Party - First Time at Malaher
Hello Nestor Falls Team, This is on behalf of the Hren fishing party that went to Malaher Lake opening weekend of the 2023 fishing season. This was our first time using Nestor Falls Fly-In Outposts. Our fish count: 280 walleyes and 40+ northerns. Two 40 inch northerns, several more 35 inch+ released. We really enjoyed the accommodations. The motors on the boats were flawless. The water pump was working and not working. You guys were amazing in responding, flying in new parts the next day. Most enjoyable: the stunning water beauty, the variety of fish and sizes, but oh the stories. This is the fifth camp we have used and we enjoyed yours the best. Happy to serve as a reference for you all.

Best fishing ever
Quality in everything they do. I have been going with Dave and Michelle for 20 years and start getting excited for the next trip on the way home from the last trip. The fishing at Malaher is second to none. Big Walleye and huge Northern Pike are an every day experience. There's a lot of wildlife to see too. The cabin feels like home and has everything you could need for a great stay in the wilderness. You're the only cabin on the lake and if that's not enough you can leave Malaher through a narrow channel and go into the river system and fish even more unspoiled water. If you want to rough it in a spoiled kind of way, Nestor Falls Fly In is the outfit for you.

The experience you are looking for!
Dave and Michelle have this down!! They couldn't be more friendly, caring, helpful and accommodating. Their lakes have it all. Great fishing, beautiful scenery and plentiful diversity. Went to Malaher for the 3rd time this year. My personal fav due to the numerous 21"-23" walleye that can be caught all day in the right spots. We always find our own new spots. I also love the diversity of structure. From narrows to big lake action. Islands and points abound. Rock piles, flats, rapids, drop offs. No matter the weather, you can find optional fishing to match it! Herod is great and so is Larus. Larus has a sweet cabin! Haven't got past these lakes yet. No need to!! :D

Amazing 7 day trip to Malaher with some great friends. Lake was a little low from past years according to the guys I was with (their 3rd and 4th time there), but just added to adventure of having to fish it a little different from past years. My second year going and was just great of a time as my first, looking forward to another trip to "unplug" and just have fun, relax. Dave, Michelle and the crew are top notch!
