Summarized Review Highlights
Tinker's Places earns overwhelmingly positive reviews across a wide range of guest types, with nearly every reviewer awarding five stars. Many guests have returned annually for a decade or more, and the phrase "like visiting family" appears in various forms throughout the reviews. The operation is rooted in a multi-generational family history, and that family character — built by the original "Tinker" and carried forward by Kari, Sharon, Dallas, and other family members — is consistently cited as the defining quality of the place. Guests describe the staff as warm, attentive, and genuinely resourceful without being intrusive. The reputation for hospitality is strong enough that the resort has been used as a wedding venue, a multi-generational family gathering site, a corporate group retreat, and an anniversary destination, in addition to its core identity as a fly-in fishing outfitter.
On the fishing side, reviewers are enthusiastic. Walleye, northern pike, lake trout, and smallmouth bass all get mentions, and guests describe both the main-lake fishing and the fly-in outpost lakes as highly productive. Shore lunches cooked fresh by guides, guided half-day trips yielding 35 fish, and trophy catches are recurring highlights. The cabins are described as real log construction, clean, well-stocked with kitchen equipment, and comfortable without being luxurious — one reviewer put it as "not luxurious, but not rustic either." The Friday night fish fry at the main lodge is called out repeatedly as a popular and worthwhile event. Food under the American plan receives consistent praise. Non-fishing amenities — kayaks, paddle boards, canoes, a beach area, hiking, and wildlife viewing — give non-anglers plenty to do, and several couples and non-fishing guests report having a genuinely satisfying stay.
There are very few complaints in the reviews. The one practical note worth flagging comes from a fly-in outpost stay: the remote cabins use an outhouse rather than indoor plumbing, which one reviewer mentioned matter-of-factly as something to be prepared for. The same reviewer also advised packing extra supplies (in their case, whiskey ran out on day four), which is general fly-in common sense. A couple of reviewers noted that meals at the lodge are served at set times — 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. — so arriving promptly matters if you want full service. Booking early is advised by long-time guests, as the place fills up. Beyond those logistical points, the reviews contain no recurring complaints about the facility, staff, or experience. Tinker's Places appears best suited to groups of fishing buddies seeking fly-in walleye and pike action, multi-generational families wanting a structured but relaxed Canadian lake experience, couples looking for quiet and scenery with optional fishing, and first-time fly-in guests who would benefit from an unusually hands-on and flexible hosting style.

I can't say enough good about our whole experience! The food was fabulous! Fishing, guides and flights were great! Cabin and the resort were perfect! Added extras were the beach, kayaks and Gus and Ralph-the dogs! Kari is an amazing host-don't know how she does so much for her guests! Can't wait to go back!

1st Group Trip at Tinkers
We have a group of friends (23 adults and 4 kids and 7 under 3) that wanted to stay at a resort in Canada. We were lucky to find Tinkers place. We rented all 6 cabins. They were clean and well stocked, with toasters, coffee makers and ice all ready in the freezer. If we needed anything like a griddle or crockpot, we just asked! They provide drinking water but we brought our own for convenience. Most cabins had all twin beds and we brought Pack and Plays for the babies. So each adult had a bed with towels and washcloths. We all were thankful for showers in each cabin and we brought our own blowup little bathtub for the babies. We loved the beach area and the beautiful views from the decks. Each deck had a grill and at least two chairs! This place had it all. A beautiful outdoor pavilion area that we used each night to gather as a group and make our own meals. They provide meals too if you want. Their Friday night fish fry was a highlight. The beach had kayaks, paddle board, paddle boat, and a nice sand area for the little ones. Our group enjoyed catching fish right off the docks. We would order our bait the night before and it would be delivered to our dock that morning. So convenient! The docks are large and protected. We could see our boat from our deck. Finally it is the people who make this place great! It is family owned and they work hard to make our vacation a special trip. Thank you for sharing your wonderful place with us. The Canada Group 2018.

Another EXCELLENT for Tinkers's Places
When I read reviews, unless there are quite a few, I tend to disregard. So I am adding this review just agree wholeheartedly with the other who have given it 5 stars.
My wife and I are not fisherpeople. But we really wanted a quiet Ontario lakefront cabin with a canoe and rocky forested shores. I grew up in Canada and spent at least part of every summer in the north woods on a lake. After 40 years in California, I have begun to crave that kind of setting for a vacation unwind.
Now this place attracts mostly fishermen, I understand. And that is fine ... I hear the fishing is superb. But it also gave us just what we wanted. Our cabin is about 12 meters from the water. It has beds for six people. GOOD mattresses. The site is far enough off the lightly travelled local road that it is very quiet.
Kari and her husband grew up in the area. Kari's family built the place up cabin by cabin over 30+ years. It is not luxurious, but I would not call it rustic, either. Kari a warm and attentive host but in no way intrusive.
I should say that they also run a fly in fishing service to more remote sites. But here at Tinker's, it was drive in and park.
My wife and I are already looking to return here when we can. Are you getting that we really like the place and the way the people here handle it and themselves?
Insider tip: Just talk to Kari and let her describe what they have ...they are all quiet, all get sun, all spacious.

Wonderful cabin stay in a beautiful environment with excellent hosts.
We arrived very late at night so Tinker's gave us careful instructions on how to accurately find the cabin and they left both the indoor and outdoor lights so we could find which cabin was ours. One of the dogs was making his way home along the road and actually guided us straight from the road down to the lodges, which I can't be certain is a consistent part of the service, but we certainly appreciated it!
Cabin 2 was clean and welcoming, plenty of wood if we wanted to light the fire. Fresh gallons of water in the fridge and condiments in the cupboards. Fresh towels and toiletries were folded and placed neatly on each bed making each person feel like they were being individually looked after which was nice.
The next morning Kare came knocking at the door babe on hip and child at feet, to make sure we'd been able to get in okay, which we had because of their preparations. She had lots to tell us about the amenities and even offered to let us use the laundry on site as well as telling us where to find the laundromat in town. Kare told us where the main lodge is and that breakfast and dinner would be served promptly at 7am and 7pm respectively, which is very easy to remember although the kitchen in cabin 2 was well equipped enough for us to happily self-cater and the grill on the decking was put to good use.
Once up at the lodge we mentioned maybe wanting to do some hiking. Later on that afternoon Kirsty had placed in our cabin a printed map and guide of hikes in the area we'd been looking at. Great service and helped us work out before we went how much of a hike we wanted to do.
Looking at the guest book in the cabin 2 living room, we noted that Friday Fry Day seemed to be very popular so we booked this with Kare. On the night we turned up a little late at 7.20pm so make sure you arrive promptly to make sure you get every opportunity to try the delicious food! They don't run out, there's wild rice, coleslaw and bread with perfectly fired fish, but if you want seconds come at 7pm! Everything wraps up quickly at approximately 8pm but it's worth going because you get to meet friendly locals who tell you some great stories and can tell you where to fish!
Once again talking to Kare about what we'd ideally like to do led to us sitting on a sea-plane just hours later, heading to an outpost cabin of Tinker's. Completely unexpected, and she really pulled it together for us. The pilot was just incredible, super friendly and we enjoyed chatting to him as he turned on the water and gas for us at the outpost. A deer was wading in the lake at the side of the cabin when we arrived and seemed happy to chill while we watched. A friendly seagull kept his eye on our bait and he's apparently a well-known character by that cabin.
Returning to Cabin 2 on the mainland we really took in the sights. If you go down to the Tinker's Place dock which is very close to the cabins, you can actually fish just off of there and catch Large-mouth Bass, Northern and Perch. They have fishing equipment you can borrow from a cabin on the dock as well as two canoes and a paddle board you can use at any time. Animals and birds abound, chipmunk, chickadees, woodpeckers, pelicans, heron and stork. It's a stunning location and the family run business is efficient and the people so kind and thoughtful. Definitely highly recommended.

Huntley Wedding
I can't even begin to describe how amazing this place is! Not only is there beautiful accommodations, the views and fishing are superb. We chose Tinker's as our wedding venue and are so incredibly happy we did! Kari and the staff made all our wedding dreams come true. From fulfilling our every little wish/idea, to making delicious food (and amazing wedding cakes!), to making sure is and all our 25 family and friends were satisfied and taken care of, Tinker's never disappointed! I highly recommend this little piece of paradise to any angler (we're local to Northwestern Ontario and know our fishing - scored 25 walleye between four boats in just over an hour), family vacationer, couple looking for some romance and especially for a wedding venue! I can't say enough nice things about Tinker's! Can't wait to go back next year!

ONLY the best place to take family, business associates, etc. for a once in a life time canadian fishing experance. The girls that run the lodge and cook provide not only a great family-type atmosphere, but will provide you with real world class food. The cabins are honest to goodness REAL log cabins. Very comfortable and your needs are taken care of happy people with smiling faces. Just the best there is!!!!!!!!

Great vacation at Tinker's
Our family of five, including three teenagers, had a wonderful week at Tinker's in August. Fishing was great and our housekeeping cabin was clean and well-maintained. We had one delicious meal at the lodge and a half day trip with the guide - 35 fish! The location is peaceful and low-key - everything you need, nothing you don't. Highly recommended.

The experiences in nature were an excellent break for us - we got to canoe on the pristine lake and listen to and view a great variety of birds right on our cottage deck. I definitely see why they have guests that come back year after year! - Jenny, Minneapolis
