Summarized Review Highlights

Maynard Lake Lodge and Outpost has an overwhelmingly positive reputation across TripAdvisor and other review platforms, with nearly every reviewer awarding five stars and many describing the trip as the best fishing vacation they have ever taken. Repeat visits are a recurring theme — numerous guests mention returning year after year, some as far back as 2004 — which speaks to a consistently high standard of operation. Owners Josh and Kayla are mentioned by name in almost every review and are credited with setting the tone for a welcoming, attentive, and well-run camp. The remote, fly-in setting on a quiet northern Ontario lake is also frequently highlighted as part of the appeal, with guests appreciating the peacefulness and absence of outside boat traffic.

Guests consistently praise several specific aspects of the lodge. Fishing is described as exceptional, with walleye being the primary draw — multiple reviewers report catching 50 or more walleye in a single morning, along with solid northern pike in the 30–40 inch range and occasional muskie. The guides receive high marks across the board for their lake knowledge, professionalism, and personal touches. The food is a standout in nearly every review: the on-site chef (Garth is named more than once) is praised for restaurant-quality meals, and the shore lunch is described repeatedly as the best in Canada. Cabins are consistently called clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, and the boats and motors are specifically noted as modern, reliable, and properly equipped — a detail several experienced anglers mention as setting this lodge apart from others they have visited.

Negative feedback is rare and minor in the available reviews. The one three-star review involves a guest who stayed at the outpost cabin and felt that an advertised "extra day of fishing" promotion was not honored as expected — a logistical or booking concern rather than a complaint about the lodge experience itself. That same reviewer had positive things to say about the food, staff, boats, and accommodations. No recurring complaints about equipment, service quality, or fishing conditions appear across the broader review set. Maynard Lake Lodge appears best suited for walleye-focused anglers — whether that is a group of adult friends, fathers and sons, or even families with children — who want guided fishing with full lodge amenities in a remote fly-in setting. Guests with experience at other Canadian lodges frequently say Maynard Lake stands above the rest, and first-time fly-in visitors are equally enthusiastic, suggesting the lodge works well for a wide range of experience levels.

All words fall short of experience!
I was told over and over how the food, fishing, and staff was and thought it was all a little too good to be true. Let me tell you, I was under sold. There is no review that you could leave to prepare you for what you will experience here. Garth created meals better than any 5star resort. The staff was second to none and Josh and Kayla were awesome as well. Everyone here loves what they do and share it with you. Lets not forget the safety that Max and Frank offer as well. If you are thinking about it, do it I promise you will be blown away. Can't wait to go back!!

45 and counting five-star reviews can't be wrong!
I just returned yesterday from a five-day stay at Maynard Lake Lodge and Outpost, and I wanted to write a glowing review while the experience is still fresh in my mind. After reviewing the 45 and growing 5-star reviews already on TripAdvisor before starting my own, I'm not sure there's anything I can add except to say this is truly an amazing place. Josh and Kayla are gracious hosts who try to accommodate your every need and succeed. The accommodations are clean, comfortable, cute, and relaxing. Every meal is better than your favorite local restaurant, and the view from the dining room cannot be beat. The camp and dock staff are amazing and make you feel like family the moment you step off the seaplane. It's a fishing vacation, and nothing can ruin it faster than being surprised with substandard equipment and boats, but that's not the case at Maynard Lake Lodge. There wasn't a hard-starting, rough-idling, or leaky boat in the fleet. All the boats we used were clean, stable, dry, quiet, comfortable, and impeccably equipped and maintained. For nostalgia, bring your tackle box and throw lures that bring back memories and remind you of past trips, or your dad's or granddad's tackle box. Your guide will happily review what you have listen to the stories of why they're sentimental and work them into your plan on how to attack the lake and make new memories with big fish. Bring one-third of the snacks that you planned on. Chef Garth and the shore lunch crew will take care of you; hungry is not a complaint you will hear from anyone. Maynard Lake Lodge is the real deal.

A few of our notable fish caught: 26", 28.5", 30.5", 31", 32", 32.5" Walleye, 37" Pike and 18.5" Smallie! We loved every minute of our trip and are already planning our next adventure to Maynard Lake Lodge!

Phenomenal!
I don't even know where to start! Maynard Lake Lodge was over the top! We arrived, my husband and I, that morning on the float plane with Josh and Kayla and the dock crew waiting for us. They all welcomed us with smiles and handshakes. We were taken to the lodge for breakfast. While we were at breakfast they delivered our luggage to our cabin. Josh gave us all a rundown on how things operated and after we finished breakfast, we were on the water fishing by 8 am. The fishing is incredible! All the walleye you will ever want to catch in a day. Our guide James was Awesome! He made our 3 days that we were there so memorable. Every morning, he had wildflowers that he had picked sitting on my seat in the boat. He knew so much about the lake and fishing that you would have thought he had been guiding there for years, but this was his first year. We will never forget him. The food was over the top. Every meal was outstanding! Every staff member was so kind and eager to please. We were only there 3 days, but those 3 days of memories will last a lifetime. We will definitely be back and for longer than 3 days.

Amazing Canadian fishing adventure
Just returned from a memorable trip to Maynard Lake Lodge. We have been going since 2004. Once again Josh, Kayla and staff did not disappoint. If you are looking great fishing (catching!), unbelievable food, best shore lunch in Canada and an attentive friendly staff then look no further. We have been to other Canadian lodges and nothing come close to MLL. Can't wait to return!

Amazing experience!
Everything from the floatplane flight up to the flight back was amazing. We were greeted by the owners Kayla and Josh and the staff on the dock on arrival at Maynard. Everyone made us feel very welcome. Food was amazing - breakfast, shore lunches, dinners! Fishing was amazing, caught so many walleye it was crazy, and a 43.5" musky! Guides were very knowledgeable and professional. A better place to be.

More Than Outstanding——Again
Just returned from my second fishing trip from Maynard Lake Lodge. This recommendation is a continuation from my comments made January 2021. Though I'd share some numbers of my 4 days of catching.. Over 50 walleye caught before noon on two of the days. Would have been on all 4 but went Muskie and small mouth the other two in mornings. 38" and two 39" pikes in the boat. Caught several smaller ones and a couple I just could not get in because of size and maybe my errors. But I won't admit that. This is a 5 star resort. The staff from the cooks to housekeeping to guides are excellent. I will return.

The trip of a lifetime!
Everything at Maynard Lake Lodge was beyond our expectations and this was a trip of a lifetime. 1) The fishing is spectacular. In just one 3 hour timespan we caught 52 Walleye, 11 Northern Pike and 1 Bass. Our guide, Marlon, put us on to spots all over the lake and river that kept the action going from 8 to 5 every day. To top it off, my son caught a Muskie! 2) Owners Josh and Kayla are excellent hosts. We were met at the dock when the float plane landed and they both made it a point to check in to make sure we had everything we needed and have a chat with us each day. 3) The chef prepares delicious food in generous portions. I'm a meat and potatoes kind of person and this chef takes the food I'd make at home into another dimension. The best pork chop I've ever had and a cheesecake dessert were my favourites but every meal was excellent. The shore lunch was always delicious with the Walleye we just caught prepared in 3 different ways, side salads, veggies, drinks and dessert. 4) Our waterfront cabin had a gorgeous view of the lake, was sparkling clean, and had taxidermied animals that really made us feel like we were in the Canadian wilderness. 5) The quiet and peacefulness of being on a remote lake with no other people (except the guests staying at the same lodge or outpost) was relaxing and rejuvenating. The Maynard Lake Lodge experience was something we will never forget. The majority of guests we spoke to while we were there have been to the lodge multiple times and we would love to become regulars ourselves. Book your spot, you won't regret it.

More than outstanding
Had an outstanding fishing adventure in September 2021. LOOK, if you want to fish in Canada, Maynard Lake Lodge is where you need to go. PERIOD! Maynard Lodge offers the total package for the outdoors man and the family. This includes the facilities, boats, food, guides, shore lunch and of course catching fish. Not just fishing, but catching as many as you can handle. I've had the opportunity to fish in many states as well as the Amazon and Maynard Lake Resort is the best.

Maynard Lake Lodge is the premier Northern Ontario fly-in fishing lodge experience!
From the staff, to the accommodations, to the food.... It's all first class and an incredible fly-in fishing experience! It's clear that Josh and his wife Kayla are intent on making your stay at the lodge the best it can be. They care about every detail and want to know if something isn't quite right! The guides are fantastic and know the lake system well. They are treated like family and it shows! After two earlier trips to Maynard Lake with "the guys", I decided to organize a trip with my 3 sons along with my best friend and his son this past summer. It was an incredible trip that surpassed all expectations and will be remembered forever. I have done somewhere around 12-15 fishing trips to NW Ontario fishing lodges. Maynard Lake stands out as the best, and that is why I will continue coming back. Josh & Kayla along with their team are a cut above the rest in many significant facets of their operation. Cabins are super clean, well cared for and recently built or updated! The staff is so far beyond any other I have been around. The boats and motors are new and well maintained. The food is outstanding, and the portions were never limited.

Fantastic experience. Did a 3 day fishing trip with the boys and it was unreal. The guides are awesome and the food is five star. And the fishing is just ridiculous. We own a camp on Lake of the Woods so we know the deal. This is next level. Thanks to Josh and the staff. See you next year.

Amazing Family Trip
We took our 2 young girls to Maynard Lake Lodge and we had the most amazing time! We were lucky enough to get to go out onto the lake with Josh not once, but twice and could not have asked for a better experience. Our girls caught their first fish, we had delicious shore lunches, walked some incredible bush trails, my husband even got to give Muskie fishing a try, and of course we were surrounded by amazing people. The food was awesome as well!! Can't wait to go back to this beautiful and make more memories! Thank you Josh, Kayla, Storm, and Axton!!

Good and Bad
Fished Maynard Lake this past week (Aug. 22-26, 2016)...we stayed in the Outpost Cabin. Our experience was both Good and Bad. Let's start with the Good first...The Outpost Cabin was fine...solar power and generator...comfortable beds...the boats provided were great! 30 horse, 4 stroke, electric start...and good boats. The shore lunch was fabulous and the dinners were unbelievable! The first two nights they put a steak so large in front of me I could not eat all...that is very unusual. The staff was great...friendly and helpful. The fishing was only fair, but our first time on Maynard and we had to learn the lake. Most folk at Maynard are after Walleye...we were targeting Pike...we caught Pike but most were small...we did manage a few in 30-36 inch range...also hooked into two Muskie but we managed to lose them...our incompetence showed through. Now for the "bad". Maynard Lake Lodge touts an "extra day of fishing"...was the main reason we chose Maynard. [We were not able to receive that extra day as advertised.]

The best of our many fishing trips
My brother and I have arranged a fishing trip to different locations every year for the last few years. We've been to various places in Texas, Sturgeon Bay, Fiji, and the Bahamas. This year (2013) we stayed at Maynard Lake Lodge on the recommendation of a client of mine. It was easily the best of any of our fishing trips. From start to finish, we had a fantastic time. Josh and his staff are great. The service they provide is top-notch. Everything is taken care of, from getting picked up at the Winnipeg airport to arranging for the float plane to meeting us at the dock and making us feel welcome right from the start. The cabins are great, the food is incredible thanks to an on-staff chef, the daily shore lunch is a fantastic experience, and the boats and fishing gear that the lodge supplies are excellent. But it's all about the fishing. And the fishing is phenomenal. We had a great guide and caught many pike and walleye. Some of the pike approached 40 inches! Our biggest walleye was 22 inches with many just under that size. Plus we went out every evening after dinner without our guide and had a blast catching fish in nearby bays on our own. Highly recommended!

If you can only afford one fly-in this is the one to take!
I was searching for a fly-in trip on the internet last year when I stumbled upon a gem called Maynard Lake Lodge. My son Kevin and I liked what we saw and ended up having the trip of a lifetime. Over 150 walleye in 4 days was something we won't soon forget. A 36" northern was a fine bonus. The minute you get off the plane at the dock you feel like you're in for something special. All your gear is taken to your cabin by the fine staff and you sit down in the lodge to a hearty breakfast. A-plus to the wonderful servers who always have a smile for you. Shore lunch is amazing. You just sit back with a drink and watch a wonderful meal being cooked on an open fire. Our guide Matt was great about putting us on the fish. The dock guys were always there to help. Josh and his crew really have it down. Already booked for '13. Cabins are roomy and very clean.

Far north fishing trip
I have been to this lodge on a number of occasions over the years with my kids and we have never been disappointed. I actually don't know how they could make it better from the float plane in, to the awesome shore lunches, perfect accommodations, and terrific fishing. This year my daughters landed a 44" Musky, a 26" Walleye and more northerns than we can count. We saw loons, bald eagles, beavers and otters. This is the perfect trip for anyone wanting a true northern fishing experience.
