Summarized Review Highlights

Blue Fox Camp, located on Kirkpatrick Lake (also known as Blue Lake) in Ontario's Algoma Highlands near Blind River and Elliot Lake, holds a strong and consistent reputation among guests. Every reviewed visit resulted in a five-star rating, and the tone across reviews — from families to television fishing show hosts — is one of genuine enthusiasm. Guests frequently describe the setting as uniquely beautiful and tranquil, and many note a desire to return, with at least one reviewer confirming a second trip. The camp is fly-in access only, reached by floatplane from Elliot Lake or Blind River, which contributes to the remote, disconnected atmosphere guests consistently appreciate.

The fishing is the most frequently praised aspect of Blue Fox Camp. The property sits within Ontario's only self-sustaining inland three-species trout system, offering lake trout, rainbow trout, and brook trout all in the same connected waterway — a rarity in Canada. Brook trout in the 2.5 to 4.5 pound range appear regularly in reviews, with some guests reporting fish in the 6 to 8 pound category. Fly anglers specifically note success with leech and woolly bugger patterns on the specialty management lakes above the main camp. Beyond fishing, guests also mention the food and hospitality warmly, calling meals "amazing" and staff exceptional, with guides noted as returning year after year. Amenities such as a sauna, swimming, and available Wi-Fi at the main lodge are also mentioned positively. Pricing is described as affordable relative to comparable Canadian trout destinations.

There are no recurring complaints across the reviews, and no negative experiences are reported. The one practical consideration that surfaces is weather: at least one reviewer noted that multiple weather fronts — including heavy rain, fog, and thunderstorms — moved through during a late-September visit, which affected fishing conditions. This is a natural reality of remote northern Ontario fishing rather than a camp-specific issue, but it is worth noting for trip planning purposes. Blue Fox Camp appears best suited for dedicated trout anglers, particularly those interested in fly fishing for large brook trout, as well as families looking for a genuine wilderness retreat and groups of friends seeking a mix of fishing and relaxation. It would also appeal to first-time fly-in guests given the staff's noted hospitality and the relatively accessible price point.

Brook Trout Heaven — Episode 463
One of the best places to start your adventure is at the famous Blue Fox Camp. It's owned by four fishing buddies who are totally committed to the preservation and sustainability of this amazing fishery. The Blue Lake System, home to the Blue Fox Camp, consists of Blue Lake (also known as Kirkpatrick Lake) and seven surrounding feeder lakes. It also has the distinction of being the province's only self-sustaining inland three-species Trout system (Lake, Rainbow, and Brook Trout). With access to an astounding variety of lakes and rivers, some with a unique natural population of brookies, others stocked with potential for that huge once-in-lifetime catch, the Blue Fox Camp is a Build Your Own Outdoor Adventure kinda place. If you're looking for an unforgettable fishing experience, this is it! The ultimate reward did come for Ang as he caught what he feels is either his first or second largest Brook Trout ever: a meaty fish that looked to be somewhere in the 6-8 lb category — a true Algoma giant!

Rediscovering Ontario's Blue Lake Region
Blue Fox Camp, situated at the very bottom end, on the south shore of Kirkpatrick Lake (known locally as Blue Lake), is the centerpiece and acts as a perfect starting and ending point for exploring the area. The Blue Lake region in Ontario has an addictive quality to it — that's for sure. All the staff working at Blue Fox Camp, where our canoe trip began, were all returning guides who had eagerly chosen to work at this remote lodge year after year. Now the cluster of aqua blue lakes and crystal clear streams are alive with trophy brook trout, feisty lake trout and self-sustaining rainbow — a rarity in Canada which happens in only 1% of the countries waterways. All of them were in absolute awe of the place, and so would the rest of us by the end of our trip there.

Blue Fox Camp: Fly-in Fishing for Big Brook Trout
Mark Melnyk, a host of The New Fly Fisher Television Show, recently travelled to Northern Ontario in search of wild brook trout. The key to his search was affordable trout fishing, and he found it at Blue Fox Camp. Located in beautiful Algoma Country, just a short floatplane flight from Elliot Lake, Blue Fox Camp is surrounded by numerous lakes and river systems that all possess brook trout. Specimens of 3 to 4 pounds are common, with monster fish caught every week in the 6- to 8-pound range. What Mark loved the most was the fact that this is very affordable fishing for big brook trout, something that is not common in Canada. Blue Fox Camp has clean, comfortable accommodations and can provide a number of plans for all anglers.

Fishing the Exceptional Waters at Blue Fox Camp
When a long-time friend and producer at The New Fly Fisher Show called me up and asked if I wanted to help with a show at Blue Fox Camp, north of Blind River in Algoma Country, I didn't hesitate. YES, I said. I have fond memories of fishing in the Blue Lakes Area many years ago. I knew it was a special place. I wasn't disappointed! Blue Fox Camp is situated in the Algoma Highlands on Lake Kirkpatrick. Colin and I travelled to Blind River in late September and flew into the Camp by float plane. Over a 6 day period, we fished the big water as well as focussing on two of the special management lakes above the camp. Fishing was tough with various fronts marching through the area bringing everything from bright sunshine to heavy rain, thunder and lightning, fog and low overcast, drizzly weather. Despite this, we were both rewarded with numerous Brook Trout in the 2.5-3.5lb category. I was rewarded with the largest brookie I ever caught. A beautiful 4.5lb Brook Trout that fell to my small woolly bugger. Most of our fish fell to a slowly retrieved vampire leech pattern. At one point Colin and I had a doubleheader of sizeable Brook Trout. That is perhaps one of my fondest memories of my trip with Colin. Blue Fox Camp continues to beckon me back. The chance to fish large or small lakes for large Brook Trout in both specially managed waters and self-reproducing lakes was a special treat. The quiet and beauty of the Algoma Highlands surrounds you and drive all those unimportant day-to-day thoughts away. What remains is a feeling of completeness, fresh air and the pleasure of fishing with a good friend. The other great memory is heading back to camp after a day on the water, for a well-deserved drink and an amazing meal by Pete's staff. Blue Fox Camp and the management of the area are certainly Exceptional and well worth your consideration.

An unforgettable wilderness retreat!
Our family's stay at Blue Fox Wilderness Camp in early July was exactly what we needed. The experience is hard to put into words, but it was truly special. The camp offers a rare opportunity to disconnect from the digital world while still having Wi-Fi available at the main camp if needed. We loved catching lake and rainbow trout, swimming in pristine waters, and enjoying the sauna. Evenings were filled with card games and quality family time. Blue Fox provides an environment unlike any I've experienced before. It's the perfect place to unplug, reconnect with nature and your loved ones. Highly recommended for families looking to escape the daily grind and create lasting memories.
