Summarized Review Highlights

Bakers Narrows Lodge on Lake Athapapuskow in northern Manitoba holds a strong overall reputation, with the majority of guests rating their stay highly. The lodge draws a wide range of visitors — fishing groups, families, couples, solo travellers, and work crews — and most leave with positive impressions. The setting itself is consistently praised: clean, well-kept grounds, rustic log cabins close to the water, and easy highway access from Flin Flon. Staff warmth and hospitality are the most frequently mentioned strengths, with many guests singling out specific guides by name (John, Scott, Mac, Greg, Ken, Daryl) as knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and central to making the trip worthwhile. Fishing for walleye, northern pike, lake trout, and lakers is widely described as productive and at times exceptional, particularly on guided fly-out days. Food served at the lodge restaurant also earns consistent praise, and the cabins — while dated and rustic — are generally described as clean and adequately equipped. Non-fishing packages such as the "Taste of the North" nature and culture tour have also been well received by guests not primarily interested in fishing.

However, a recurring theme across lower-rated reviews points to operational and communication issues that prospective guests should be aware of. Several reviewers reported billing inconsistencies — being quoted different totals at different times, or being charged on a credit card after being told their balance was settled — with limited follow-up from management afterward. Guide reliability has been flagged more than once, including a guide who needed to be woken up before a session and another who underperformed relative to other guides on the same trip. Infrastructure concerns have also come up, notably a boat dock described as dangerously deteriorated over multiple seasons, and a boat launch that at least one guest found difficult to use. Cabin conditions, while generally clean, are noted as dated in several reviews — dim lighting, older fixtures, and mismatched beds are mentioned. Communication responsiveness is another consistent complaint: slow email replies, rushed phone calls, and instances where guests were not informed of changes (such as guide unavailability or trail closures) until they arrived after long drives. One review raised a serious allegation of discriminatory treatment of an Indigenous guest group by one staff member, with no satisfactory resolution from ownership.

Bakers Narrows Lodge is best suited for anglers targeting walleye, northern pike, and lake trout in a northern Manitoba setting, particularly those who value guided experiences and shore lunches. It works well for groups of friends, families with children who enjoy outdoor activities beyond fishing, and couples or solo travellers looking for a quiet, nature-focused cabin stay. The lodge also serves work crews and travellers passing through the region. Guests who prioritize modern amenities, prompt customer service, or detailed pre-trip communication may find the experience inconsistent. Those booking premium packages — especially fly-out or adventure packages — are advised by multiple reviewers to confirm guide availability and included activities before travelling, as last-minute changes have occurred without adequate advance notice.

Natives Beware!
I've spent the last two weeks debating on what type of review I wanted to leave. Waited an extra week now because the owner was going to call me to talk about our experience and maybe set things right. but of course i haven't heard a word from him. We did a 4 night 3 day all inclusive package. Our trip started out rocky with one of their guides telling our guide that he wasn't going to be taking his Native group to any of the good spots (Our group was all natives). Our guide Amir assured us he didn't share the same opinion and did a phenomenal job, he made the trip for us. The cabins are very basic but serve the purpose. The food was good even though they had a menu you couldn't really order off of. The booking was simple, the paying was not, I'm not sure exactly how much we all actually paid. Every time we called there was a different total that was due and there were even more charges when we got there. The fishing was great, the snow machines were nice. Our guide really did an amazing job and if I could give him all the stars I would. I can only speculate how many other groups of Natives have experienced the same attitude by their racist guide or if the group that was there had the best experience they could have. I will end this with saying I am not typically one to bash businesses, often times there's things they are unaware of, but in this case it's been a month and at this point I feel like the owner has made a conscious decision to ignore us.

Fishing good service poor
1st time trip to Bakers was disappointing. The accommodations were adequate as the cabins were clean but small for 4 guys. The fishing was good we really didn't have any complaints about that even though we did not catch a trophy the numbers were good and the big ones do exist. On the second guide day we had to get our guide out of bed and it delayed us 45 min from our original departure time and no apologies were ever given to us. The guide didn't drill a single hole or put out any set lines for us like the first guide did a few days earlier. On another day we asked the owner for directions to the rainbow trout lakes and he gave us the runaround and had us call another guide for info and he never responded to our phone calls or text messages. Cool area laker numbers were good but general service at Bakers was poor as we will try another place next time.

Fishing Bakers Narrows – Nonstop Action for Pike, Walleye and Lakers
This mid-September excursion to Lake Athapapuskow at Baker's Narrows Lodge has been exactly that—a dynamic adventure bursting with unceasing action. Although our initial intention was to pursue lake trout, the often shifting conditions resulted in an amazing session of casting for northern pike and dragging in some amazing walleyes along the route. The meals and lodging were first-rate; pike fishing was unrelenting; we found many walleyes. We had success despite the lake trout restrictions, and we are already organizing a return trip to target these enormous fish over the ice. Baker's Narrows Lodge should be at the top of your list if you're searching for a fantastic northern fishing location. Anybody angler can find success here with trophy-class fish and a continuously changing but always fascinating surroundings.

Could have been a great trip
We went the 1st week of June on their adventure package which includes a fly out trip and an atv ride to a different lake in addition to a day on the main lake, all guided. We booked a 4-day 5-night trip so had 1 unguided day on the main lake. Wildfires were in the area, but we received a phone call the week before we were to leave that the fires were contained, and they would be open the week we were to arrive. After driving 1200 miles, we checked in only to find out that our appointed guide was not available and the trail to go on the atv trip to a different lake was not passable. Nothing was said about this the week before when they called. So, we were assigned a part time guide from the office and were told the atv trip would be replaced by possibly another fly out trip or something similar. Needless to say, we had a very good morning of walleye fishing on the fly out trip but other than that, the fishing was poor in my opinion although I did catch a 42-inch northern and a few in the upper 30's. Talking to other guests, the other guides were doing much better. On our last day, we had the same guide instead of unguided, so we thought this was the make up for not going on the atv trip. When we checked out, we asked if everything was covered or if we owed anything and were told everything was taken care of. When we got home, we discovered we were charged for the last day for a guide on my credit card. We called and talked to the office manager about this and were told she would check into it and get back to us. We never heard anything back nor did we get a refund on our credit card. The food and lodging were very good, I would give that part a 5 star. My suggestion to anyone going, especially if you are going on their expensive adventure package, is to call ahead and verify that your assigned guide is still available and the fly out and atv trip is available. This could have been a very nice trip had we had one of the other guides but it's the lack of communication between us and Bakers Narrows that is more disappointing.

Beautiful cabin, they have all you need for a perfect get-away in nature
These adorable cabins are situated amongst the trees surrounded by the lake. There are nature trails and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. We loved that we could just bring some food and they had all the amenities such as cutlery, plates, pots and pans where we could cook our meals. They even included propane to use the full size BBQ on the deck where we did cook one of our meals and ate outside on the covered deck. The next night were able to enjoy a bonfire in the fire pit/grill located in front of our cabin. There are even lawn chairs, adirondack chairs and a picnic table in front of the cabin. We loved our stay here and will come back in summer next time to enjoy some of the summer-time amenities such as the kayaks that are free to use while staying here and checking out the beaches.

The perfect spot for cabin experience!
I travel through Bakers Narrow once a year and this has always been the best spot to stay! Reserving the room and checking in has been very easy and they're accommodating. The cabins are very clean and makes you feel like you're living in the woods. I love my traditional hotel but this is always a special stay. I've had incredible meals here as well, sitting around a table for dinner with the owners to joining a group visiting. Thank you for making my stays enjoyable and always making me feel home! Not to forgot, last year I was taken out fishing with two gentlemam! Highlight of the 8 years staying here. Insider tip: If you can get out to go fishing after dinner, I highly recommend it. As well, get them to cook you dinner... you won't regret it!

The Hype is overrated!
The Hype of this place is overrated in my opinion. I'll start with the good: The property was very clean and taken care of. The cabins are dated but they were clean. There is a lot of water activities available. Dock with diving board, slide into the water, kayaks, SUP and a nice beach. The dinners we had in the lodge were decent. The not so good: When we checked in they just gave us the key and told us where to go. There was no hospitality. They didn't explain housekeeping, where everything was located or give us any details about the resort. The boat launch was horrible. It was very hard to use. The docks need repairs. The owner was barely there as he's more occupied with their new fly out and seems to be forgetting about his mainland resort. I had also asked the owner when I booked the trip if fishing was great this time of year and he had told me yes. We learnt from the guide we hired that September is always very slow and the bite is best in July. We travelled 12 hours to get here and we could've came in July instead. They also do not sell ice so if you are bringing a cooler of drinks in your boat, make sure you have some with you. Oh and the fridge is tiny so we had to use a cooler as well. Lake Athapapaskow is incredible! We will definitely be back during prime time to fish there again. We will just choose a different resort next time.

Rustic cottage in a beautiful location.
If your looking for a rustic cottage experience, this is your place. I stayed for three nights in a log cottage. It had a small kitchette (dishes and some cookware included), two bedrooms, 3 piece bathroom and a small living room with satellite tv. It was cozy but very dated. Lightning was horrible and the lamps in the room had very little light. If they changed the lampshades and had LED lightbulbs it would improve this very much. Wifi is okay but spotty at the time of my stay (wildfire smoke). Beds provided are comfy but very interesting. We had a king size bed in each room. But beware, these are two singles pushed together. It wouldn't be bad but one bed was higher than the other, so I slid into my hubby in the middle of the night. Bathroom had a corner shower and the hot water was very nice. The shower itself definitely is older and had tape on the one wall as a temporary repair. Like I said the cottage is rustic. The pull out mirror was also broken. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. If you don't like dogs then this isn't your place. There was 3 friendly (lodge owned?) Dogs on site. They liked to hang around especially when it was dinner time outside...lol. One of them barked at my son, scaring him but I think he/she wanted to play. I'm giving a 3/5 rating because of the communication delays with the Lodge, information provided at time of booking and pricing overall (very expensive for what is provided). It took five days for a response via email and phone calls are rushed. They are very busy, but I think they could benefit from a staff member providing customer service/email/ social media solely.

Happy to have the option to dine here!
Had dinner in the restaurant, which is in the process of re-opening to the public. Had a good ribeye steak dinner. The wine is OK, but it wouldn't hurt to carry one nicer red and white for the odd customer that really values it. Looking forward to when the pizza menu is available again. It is nice to have some options at the lake. I like the fact that management & staff are open and transparent about trying out new items and seeking input. They are going to do well.

Lake trout aplenty
Had an amazing experience. Daryl Gilbert was our guide and he was very accommodating and knowledgeable and had us on fish right away. Cabin was quaint with most of the amenities needed except an oven- but we made do. Used the bbq instead. Rooms were clean and tidy. We had an issue with our sleigh and had to rent one- was pricey but didn't have any other options. If it had been cheaper we would have rented for 2 days instead of one. We went to a different lake by truck on our third day. Overall- we were quite satisfied with the experience and are already looking at booking another trip next year.

Incredible fishing - wonderful people
I loved this place! The fishing exceeded my expectations for Pike, Lake Trout and Walleye. The cabins are small, but was perfect for me as a solo traveller and would be good for a few people. My guides John and Scott were awesome with many many years of fishing experience. I would venture to say they are fishing finatics, Haha! I loved the flyout day for Walleyes with the shore lunch. I can't believe I have to wait until next June to come back! Room Tip: John & Scott are excellent guides. They come with their own very nice boats and I would highly recommend using them.

Spectacular venue
We spent 5 days on the water at Bakers Narrows. I'm a very inexperienced fisherman but now I'm a convert! The accommodations were very comfortable, the meals were really good and the the fishing was more fun than I ever expected. Every single person working at the resort wants you to have fun and to catch fish. Everyone we asked had a suggestion for a spot to try. We spent two days with their guide, John, and that was beyond awesome. We are now working on a return date.

Repair stuff before it falls apart. You're a fishing lodge, act like it.
We have gone to bakers narrows lodge several times before. This year was terrible. The fishing lodge had no boat dock to launch a boat with. It had been getting worse for last 2 years. This year it was knocked off its pier, and marked as use at your own risk. They were still making staff use it. We were told only once we were up there that if we wanted something else we had to pay to go to the park to launch. It's a fishing lodge. You don't wait until the dock is so bad you can fall through it, and yes you can fall through this dock. When you have to lay down plywood to cover the rotting timbers last year it's beyond time to replace the dock. It's also got rocks and timbers right where your boat is supposed to launch making it dangerous for your boat. It had been this damaged for 4-6 weeks before we even arrived. We were told a guest had already fallen though this dock.

One of our top vacations
One of the best trips we have ever taken. We aren't fishing people. We took the 'Taste of the North' package available in summer. Highlights were the pontoon boat trip to the limestone cliffs with guide, Greg, who is very interested in nature and was willing to show us bird nesting areas. Another highlight that came with the package was local entertainment... Flin Flon has a great cultural scene so try to take in some live entertainment. 'Taste of the North' also had a geology tour which was highly detailed and interesting. (If you aren't science minded, the geology tour might be a bit intense, but was perfect for us.) We also tasted seasoning from the boreal forest, which is super interesting if you like the woods. The Lodge itself has beautiful cabins and very good food. Dinner menu is limited to a choice between two entrees; which I like because then you know the food is fresh. They didn't seem to have vegetarian options, but always served fish when we were there. Maybe ask if they can accommodate vegetarian... I'm thinking vegan wouldn't be available. Hiking in the area.

Drilling bakers Lodge
Okay where do I start off about this awesome place first off I am here staying at bakers narrows lodge because I'm working for cyr drilling (Diamond Drilling) and sleeping eating and staying at this lodge. It's a wonderful place I been in the diamond drilling business for 8 years and I've never felt more like at home in any other camp in my drilling career this place is awesome food is wonderful you won't go hungry here that's a guaranteed, and also for our Lunches they are made for us already. That's awesome I never had someone make my own lunch it was always me making my own. Wonderful and grateful people who run this place. So meals are awesome the lodge is really nice amazing inside the main lodge. Where I'm staying in cabin 14 I have my own bed my own privacy I have a couch TV a shower a toilet stove fridge it's awesome like I said makes me feel right at home. The people who run it are really friendly easy going and great to get along with I'd stay here again in a heart beat.

Myself and my two boys have been to Bakers Narrows Lodge twice
Myself and my two boys have been to Bakers Narrows Lodge twice now in the last few years and cant wait to return. Sure, the fishing is awesome, with numerous options depending on what you want to fish for, and the access is easy (paved drive to resort), and the resort itself is beautiful, but it is the Bayton's (Peg, Rod and family) that make the place the great destination that it is. Looking forward to my return. Chris Keim, Medicine Hat, Alberta.

Second time at Bakers - just as amazing
This was my second time at Bakers Narrows Lodge and it was just as amazing as the first time I went down. Brett and the crew at Bakers have a great location right off the HWY, being far enough north that you feel like you drove into the bush to get there. They have a great easy going atmosphere that makes for a nice relaxing stay! Both times I have been up there I was greeted by the owner Brett and treated like we have been friends for years! The Fishing is unbelieveable! Last summer I was up there in July for my Stag with 6 of my closest friends with very little fishing experience and we all caught BIG fish! If you have a chance to fish with Mac, book him as your Guide, he provides the best guided experience that I have had at any lodge, from helping you with the right baits to knowing the right spot and when to move depending on many variables! Greg is also an amazing guide with great experience and can help you with all your fishing needs!

Ice fishing trip
Checked in with the lady in the office she was rude and could not be bothered to explain anything to us. Tried to ask her how to access the main lake via snowmobile. She said she didn't know? Usually a lake map is shared with some general areas or unsafe areas. We didn't see any staff all week. Maybe there is a great room area or a hot tub but it was locked up when we were there. Garbages were overflowing in the cabin. Felt like since we weren't guided we weren't welcome.

Amazing lodge, amazing spot and lots of fish!
Our family stayed at this beautiful lodge for a whole month. We stayed in the amazing cabin #13 only steps from a small lovely beach, crystal clear water and one cast away from monstrous pike. The family running the lodge were warm, welcoming and went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and memorable. We went on an amazing fly-in fishing trip with our reliable pilot, Brett and fabulous fishing guide, Ken. I must admit I was nervous at first but it was such an amazing experience in the air staring at the breathtaking, beautiful view of the million lakes from the air. I lost all the nerves once in the air, as it was clear we were flying with a very experienced pilot. Our fishing guide Ken found the greatest fishing spot where we spent the day reeling in walleye after walleye. We had a scrumptious shore lunch of walleye, homemade beans, and hash browns. It had lots for the kids to do from fishing, swimming, playing pool, Foosball, biking, and kayaking. The cabins were quite cozy and comfortable with very reliable housekeeping staff. The grounds of the lodge were impeccably taken care of and the dinner and Continental breakfast were delicious. I would highly recommend this fishing lodge.
