Summarized Review Highlights

Walsten Outposts generally earns positive reviews from guests, with most describing their trips as memorable and worth repeating. The majority of reviewers praise the remote, unplugged nature of the experience and highlight responsive, helpful staff — particularly booking coordinator Jo-Anne, who is credited with matching guests to the right outpost for their needs. The overall reputation across recent reviews is strong, though at least one older account (from 2015) describes a significantly negative experience at the Fort Separation cabin, including poor cabin conditions and a lack of response from management when concerns were raised afterward.

Guests consistently highlight the quality of fishing as the standout feature, with multiple reviewers reporting exceptional catch numbers. Cabins like Snowshoe Lake are described as large and well-equipped, and the setting — beaches, campfires, and full disconnection from technology — is frequently mentioned as part of the appeal. Staff responsiveness in the planning and booking process is also a recurring positive note.

The main concern surfacing in reviews is inconsistency between outpost locations. While some cabins receive high marks for amenities and upkeep, the 2015 Fort Separation review describes serious issues with cleanliness, pests, and cabin condition, along with frustration over no follow-up from the company. Prospective guests may want to ask detailed questions about the specific cabin they are booking. This destination appears best suited for small groups of friends or families looking for a self-guided, remote fly-in experience with strong walleye or general sport fishing, and those who value seclusion over resort-style amenities.

We spent five days on Roger lake on a guys trip. They're working on some renovations to the cabin, but it had everything we needed. We were completely unplugged and spent the days fishing and nights sitting by a fire. I caught more fish than I ever have and would definitely go back. The owner and guides were responsive and helpful as well. Great trip and great people.

Best trip we will have taken in 2023
Alex, Pat and Zach: Sincerely want to thank you for our once again great experiences throughout our recent Big North Lodge fly out to Rogers Lake. This August 2023 trip is our fourth visit to your fly out camps. Throughout the years your cabins, boats and motors get better and better. The cabins are always clean, and include all the comforts of home even though located in the pristine wilderness of Ontario, Canada! Of special note is the addition of solar lights and electric start motors on this year's visit to Rogers Lake. Our flights into and out of the lake are always on time and entail such a beautiful ride that we never want them to end. But most of all we enjoy and cherish your never-ending hospitality that only make our visits all the more enjoyable. Oh yeah, let's not forget those walleyes are undoubtably the best tasting in all of Canada!! Thank you again for the best trip we will have taken in 2023.

Trip was truly unbelievable!!!!
Trip was truly unbelievable!!!! We had 14 Dad's and son's do the 4 night fly-in to Rogers Lake and a few stayed 3 more nights at Big North main lodge.. From the first class service of helping us prepare for our first fly-in, to the incredible cabin at Rogers and the constant monitoring of the rookies by Alex and Zack was truly amazing.. Crazy part, the fishing was even more amazing. Everyone caught an incredible number of fish, Trophy smallmouth, Pike and Walleye.. The walleye were so numerous and big, we caught them regularly casting for pike.. It was crazy!! Our trip didn't end at Rogers, incredible fishing and service at Big North.. Food was incredible, accommodations were amazing, and the fishing was unbelievable.. Son caught a monster pike and 2 musky!! Big North can't thank u enough for the trip of a lifetime. Son is hooked!!
